This project involves the renovation of a Queenslander—a classic colonial-style dwelling uniquely adapted to Queensland’s subtropical climate. Its architectural form responds directly to environmental challenges such as intense sun, high humidity, heavy rainfall, and seasonal storms. These conditions have shaped its defining features, including a continuous encircling verandah, large operable openings for cross-ventilation, an elevated structure on timber stumps, and generous ceiling heights.

Over the course of several renovations by previous owners, the architectural features of the Queenslander have gradually diminished, and its colonial-style detailing has been weakened. The client now seeks to renovate the bathrooms and kitchen, improve the layout and privacy of the house, and reintroduce elements of the colonial aesthetic, while updating it for contemporary living.
